Meet our BlaBlaStar, Marshel. A BlaBlaStar is a member of the community who has caught our eye because of their exciting job, their interesting hobbies or for just being generally awesome. Marshel is a BlaBlaCar driver who regularly drives between London and Manchester. In his spare time he enjoys scuba diving and is now a qualified Rescue Diver and Assistant Instructor.
What do you love about BlaBlaCar?
Having done the London to Manchester four hour journey on an almost monthly basis, time goes substantially quicker when there is someone to share the journey with. Moreover, petrol prices are still high and trains are unaffordable, so BlaBlaCar eases the cost of the trip.
What has been your best BlaBlaCar experience?
One of my funniest experiences was when I shared my ride with two Mexican students who were studying in Germany at the time. They wanted to travel to Manchester as they were big Manchester United fans (can’t blame them personally) and they were so amazed by how we drive on the left-hand side of the road. It was very funny!
Tell us about your scuba diving
I started scuba diving at the age of 19 in my 2nd year of university. One of the main reasons why I dive is because I am an avid lover of marine life. Fish behave differently in their natural environment and can do all sorts of interesting things under water. The only way to see this is by meeting them in their world!
Diving is also a really social sport. It’s designed to be done in groups where you can share stories and interests with each other. It’s also really relaxing so it’s a good way to forget about hectic work and life schedules in a tranquil and stress-free environment.
Diving also ties in with my desire to explore the world and experience different cultures. I have gone diving in the UK, the North Sea, Cuba, Malta, Egypt (Red Sea), Thailand, India, Hong Kong and Croatia.
