Service Fee

Why does BlaBlaCar have a service fee and how is it calculated?

The service fee is the amount added to the seat price for most rides available on the application.

Why is there a service fee?

To provide the service you expect, this fee ensures our platform remains reliable and operates smoothly, while also helping build a carpooling community you can trust. In practical terms, we provide:

  • Customer service 7 days a week
  • A secure payment system
  • Anti-fraud protection
  • Member profile verification

How is the service fee calculated?

The service fee amount varies depending on the distance of the ride and the price set by the driver. In most cases, it corresponds to around 16% to 20% of the total price paid by the passenger (excluding VAT). The service fee is displayed during the booking process so that you know what to expect.

Service fee for drivers:
The service fee is paid by your passenger. You will therefore receive the price you set when you shared your ride.

Service fee for passengers:
When you search for a ride, the price indicated on the search page includes the service fee. The exact amount is displayed on the payment page, just before you pay for your ride.

What happens when there’s a cancellation?

If a passenger cancels a booking request that has not yet been accepted by the driver, neither the ride price nor the service fee will be charged. If the booking has already been confirmed and the passenger cancels it more than 24 hours before the start of the trip, only the service fee will be charged.

If the driver cancels the ride, the passenger will receive a full refund of both the ride price and the service fee.
